Stefano Borghi says Internazionale have demonstrated both a clear identity and the ability to adapt their tactics after taking four points from their opening two league matches.
Speaking on the programme Le Foot Toujours, the journalist praised the strength and maturity of the squad, while also highlighting the cohesion developed during the previous season and the influence of the head coach.
“In my opinion, this once again proves that this team has a clear style while also being able to adapt to different game situations. This is due to the completeness of the squad, the maturity of the team, the cohesion built over last season, and the work of the head coach. Against Monza, you saw a direct approach targeting the central striker, because that’s what the match demanded: facing an opponent coached by Juric who used man-marking and was slightly inferior technically, focusing on winning duels with the striker and committing everyone forward, Inter won 4-1.
Against Cagliari, it was completely different: they had to play a structured attacking game and actively create chances. They had 30 shots and eventually won 1-0, though the closing stages were slightly tense. It was only the second round of the league anyway, and Cagliari is a well-organized team. What stands out is that Internazionale demonstrated multiple ways of playing. I think this is a very important signal for a coach and a team aiming to compete across all competitions.”
Internazionale opened their league campaign with a 4-1 victory over Monza, producing a more direct performance against an opponent coached by Juric. Borghi said Monza’s use of man-marking and their willingness to commit players forward made it logical for Inter to seek their central striker more often.
The match also placed an emphasis on individual duels. According to Borghi, Internazionale were able to exploit their superiority in those contests and use a direct approach to control the game, eventually securing a convincing four-goal result.
Their next match required a different solution. Against Cagliari, Internazionale faced a well-organized side and were instead required to build attacks in a more structured manner. They registered 30 shots before winning 1-0, although the final stages brought a degree of tension.
Borghi stressed that the result came in only the second round of the league, but he viewed the contrasting performances as a significant early indication of Internazionale’s potential. The team’s ability to change its approach according to the opponent and the demands of a match could prove particularly important for a side seeking to challenge in every competition.
He attributed that flexibility to several factors: the completeness of the squad, the maturity of the players, the unity developed over the course of the previous season and the work of the head coach. Together, those elements have allowed Internazionale to retain a recognisable style without being restricted to one method of attack.
