Michele Di Gregorio could bring his Bournemouth loan to an early end and return to Serie A in January, with Bologna assessing a move for the Juventus goalkeeper.
The 29-year-old has made only one appearance since joining Bournemouth on 25 August. That outing came in the Carabao Cup against Lincoln City, after he moved from Juventus on loan with an option to buy.
According to Corriere dello Sport, via Calciomercato.it, Bologna are exploring alternatives because they are not fully convinced by their current goalkeeping options, Łukasz Skorupski and Massimo Pessina. Di Gregorio has emerged as a possible solution.
FIFA regulations permit a player to be registered by three clubs during one season, although they may play official matches for only two of those teams. As Di Gregorio did not feature in a competitive match for Juventus before joining Bournemouth, he would be eligible to end his spell in England and represent another club during the second half of the season.
The interest from Bologna comes as Raffaele Palladino’s side make a difficult start to their campaign. They have recorded only one league victory this season and suffered a 3-1 home defeat by Inter on Saturday.
