Birmingham City manager Chris Davies says he is hopeful forward Ibrahim Osman will recover quickly from injury in time for Saturday’s match against Bristol City, after the player was forced off during their midweek victory.
Osman was substituted in the 38th minute of Birmingham’s 2-1 win over Preston North End on Wednesday after suffering a concussion. The Ghanaian forward had made a significant impact before his early exit, scoring one goal and providing an assist.
The 20-year-old, currently on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, was replaced by Demarai Gray following the incident.

Speaking after the match, Davies described the moment that led to Osman’s injury and praised the player’s commitment.
“Yea, I think he went up for a header and he got knocked and if anything that’s credit to him, most wingers will duck out of it. He’s gone up to try and win a header and he’s taken a knock and unfortunately could not carry on. I don’t know exactly what that means but we took him and hopefully, he is back soon,” he said.
The Birmingham manager indicated that further assessment would determine the severity of the concussion, but expressed optimism that the forward could return in the near future. His availability for the upcoming fixture remains uncertain.
Osman has been a key figure for Birmingham since arriving on loan in January. In 16 appearances, he has scored two goals and contributed two assists, demonstrating his value to the squad during the latter part of the season.
His performance against Preston continued that trend, with the forward playing a decisive role before being forced off. The club will now be monitoring his condition closely as they prepare for their next match.
The injury comes at a crucial time for Birmingham, who are looking to maintain momentum following their midweek win. Losing Osman, even temporarily, would be a setback given his recent form and growing influence in the team.
Despite the concern, Davies’ comments suggest the club remains hopeful that the situation is not serious. Concussion protocols, however, may influence how quickly the player can return to action.
Osman is expected to return to Brighton at the end of the season when his loan spell concludes. His performances at Birmingham have provided valuable experience and have contributed to his development as a young forward.
For now, attention remains on his recovery, with Birmingham supporters awaiting further updates ahead of the weekend’s fixture.
