Besiktas have made an offer to Como for midfielder Maxence Caqueret, but the proposed transfer is not expected to go ahead after the player declined to agree personal contract terms.
The Turkish club approached Como in recent hours with a bid for the 26-year-old, according to L’Equipe. The value of the offer has not been disclosed, but Caqueret has rejected the opportunity to move to Turkey.
Caqueret remains under contract with Como until 2029 and is still wanted by head coach Cesc Fabregas, who has told the midfielder that he wants him to stay in northern Italy.
The Frenchman’s omission from Como’s Champions League squad had raised the possibility that he could leave the club, although that decision does not necessarily indicate that a departure is imminent. Fabregas’ position is understood to be that Caqueret should remain part of his plans.
Despite that support, Besiktas attempted to take advantage of the situation by making an offer directly to Como. The bid did not lead to an agreement, however, because Caqueret did not accept the proposed contract terms.
The midfielder joined Como after previously playing for Lyon, where he came through the club’s system and established himself at senior level. He remains tied to the Italian club for three more years beyond the current season, meaning Como are under no immediate contractual pressure to sell.
For now, the failed approach leaves Caqueret’s future unresolved but does not point to a completed move. Besiktas’s offer has been rejected by the player, while Fabregas continues to want him to remain with Como.
The situation also means that Caqueret’s absence from the Champions League squad cannot, on its own, be taken as confirmation that he is preparing to leave. Although the omission created uncertainty around his position, the club’s manager has made clear that he would prefer the midfielder to stay.
The amount proposed by Besiktas has not been made public, and no agreement has been reached between the clubs or with the player. With Caqueret contracted until 2029, Como retain control of the situation unless a new offer is made and the midfielder changes his position on a move.
