Benin midfielder Dokou Dodo has swapped Portugal for Egypt after joining El Mokawloon from Leixoes on a free transfer.
The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has signed a contract with the Egyptian Premier League club until 30 June 2028. Dodo’s move was completed on 18 August 2026, bringing an end to his time in Portugal after one season with Leixoes.
Dodo joined Leixoes from Egyptian side Smouha in August 2025 and spent the 2025-26 campaign competing in Liga Portugal 2. He began the current season with the Portuguese club but made no appearances in its opening two possible league matches before switching to El Mokawloon.
Born in Cotonou, Dodo is a Benin international and returns to Egypt, where he previously played for Smouha. His move to Smouha came from Beninese club Eternel FC in October 2022, giving him previous experience of Egyptian football before his spell in Portugal.
Dodo is listed as a defensive midfielder and is right-footed. Standing 1.77m tall, he now joins an El Mokawloon squad competing in Egypt’s top division, having previously spent the early part of his career in both Benin and Egypt before moving to Europe.
His transfer leaves Leixoes after a spell in which he was registered in Liga Portugal 2. The move also marks a return to the country where he spent the 2022-23 and 2025-26 periods of his career, although his latest spell with Smouha was followed by his move to Portugal.
Dodo’s contract with El Mokawloon runs for two seasons beyond the completion of the transfer, with the agreement keeping him at the club until June 2028. The Benin midfielder has now officially completed his free transfer from Leixoes to El Mokawloon.
