Benin international Steve Mounié has officially ended his loan spell with Turkish side Alanyaspor, with the striker set to return to Bundesliga club Augsburg ahead of the new season.
The 31-year-old forward departs after a productive campaign in the Turkish Süper Lig, where he rediscovered his scoring touch and played an important role for Alanyaspor.
However, questions remain over whether he will feature in Augsburg’s plans or seek another move during the summer transfer window.
For African football followers, Mounié’s next destination will be closely watched as one of Benin’s most experienced internationals prepares for the next chapter of his club career.
Alanyaspor confirmed the end of the striker’s loan by paying tribute to him on social media, thanking him for his contribution during the season.
The club wrote: “We would like to express our gratitude to our player Steve Mounié, whose loan has just ended, for his commitment to our team. We wish him all the best for the future of his professional career.”
The message marked the official conclusion of Mounié’s one-year stay in Turkey, where he established himself as one of the team’s key attacking players.
During his time with Alanyaspor, the Beninese striker made 25 appearances across all competitions and scored nine goals.
Those numbers underlined his continued effectiveness in front of goal and demonstrated that the experienced forward remains capable of making an impact at a high level despite entering the latter stages of his career.
His performances also strengthened his reputation as one of Benin’s leading football exports, with the striker continuing to deliver consistently at club level.
Although his loan has now expired, Mounié remains under contract with Augsburg until June 2027.
His immediate future, however, appears uncertain.
According to the information available, the Benin international is reportedly not among the priorities of Augsburg head coach Manuel Baum for the upcoming season.
That has fuelled speculation that the Bundesliga club could decide to move the striker on during the current transfer window rather than reintegrate him into the first-team squad.
Whether Augsburg choose to retain Mounié or allow him to leave permanently remains unclear.
The coming weeks are therefore expected to be important as the club assesses its attacking options before the new campaign begins.
At 31, Mounié enters a significant stage of his career.
Having demonstrated his qualities in Turkey, he could yet attract interest from clubs seeking an experienced centre-forward capable of contributing both goals and leadership.
His current market value is listed at €1.5 million by football statistics platform Transfermarkt, reflecting the continued demand that could exist for a proven international striker.
For Benin, Mounié’s club future is likely to remain an important talking point.
