Bayern Munich travel to the WWK Arena to face Augsburg on Friday as they attempt to close the gap on Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund.
Vincent Kompany’s side are unbeaten in all competitions this season and could claim a fourth consecutive league victory, while Augsburg are hoping to recover from a second successive defeat after the international break.
Augsburg, managed by Manuel Baum, made an impressive start to the 2026-27 campaign. They beat Schalke 04 3-0 on the opening weekend before defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1 a week later.
Their momentum has since faded. A 2-2 draw with Bayer Leverkusen on 12 September saw Augsburg surrender a lead created by Michael Gregoritsch’s two goals, with Patrik Schick scoring an 89th-minute equaliser.
They then allowed a two-goal advantage to slip away in a 3-2 defeat by Werder Bremen in their most recent league match. Augsburg remain fourth, but their position in the European places is under pressure because they are level on seven points with Bayer Leverkusen, Mainz, Elversberg and Werder Bremen.
Defensive concerns were also evident in a 2-2 friendly draw against second-tier Hertha Berlin earlier this month. It was Augsburg’s third successive match in which they conceded twice.
Augsburg’s suggested betting options are Bayern Munich to win with both teams scoring at 1.73, Michael Olise to score at 1.95 and Luis Diaz to score at 2.05.
Bayern are second in the table, two points behind Borussia Dortmund, who have won all four of their top-flight matches. Kompany’s team have won six of their seven games in 2026-27, with the only exception a 0-0 draw against promoted Schalke on 5 September.
Augsburg are nevertheless the only team to have beaten Bayern in their past 47 league matches, winning 2-1 at the Allianz Arena on 24 January. Bayern had won seven of their previous eight meetings with Augsburg.
Augsburg’s Bundesliga form is V, V, N, D, while their record in all competitions is V, V, V, N, D. Bayern’s league form is V, N, V, V and their overall form is V, V, N, V, V, V.
The hosts will be without 19-year-old central defender Noahkai Banks, who suffered a lateral ligament injury to his knee while playing for Germany Under-21s during the international break. Calvin Brackelmann, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Chrislain Matsima are expected to form a back three, with Marius Wolf and Hennes Behrens operating as wing-backs.
Tim Breithaupt is also expected to miss the match because of a toe injury, while Steve Mounie is unavailable. Han-Noah Massengo and Fabian Rieder should play in central midfield, with Alexis Claude-Maurice and Robin Fellhauer supporting Gregoritsch.
Bayern will be without Jamal Musiala, who suffered a muscle-fibre tear in his right thigh during the warm-up before Germany’s match against the Netherlands. As the 23-year-old continues his individual rehabilitation, Ismael Saibari could play as the number 10, alongside Olise and Diaz behind Harry Kane.
