Vincent Kompany says Bayern Munich are not rushing Jamal Musiala back to competitive football after the midfielder lost consciousness in two successive matches during pre-season.
Musiala has not played at all since the new season began, with Bayern continuing to monitor his condition. Kompany, the club’s head coach, has provided an update on the Germany international, although no timetable for his return has been given.
The 22-year-old experienced two fainting episodes during Bayern’s pre-season preparations. Those incidents occurred in consecutive matches and have kept Musiala out of action as the campaign has got under way.
Musiala’s absence means Bayern have started the new season without one of their most important midfielders. However, Kompany’s comments indicate the club are prioritising a careful recovery rather than setting a premature date for the player’s comeback.
There has been no appearance from Musiala in the new season so far. Bayern have therefore been preparing for their upcoming fixtures without him, while the club assesses when he will be ready to return to training and matches.
Bayern’s next game is away to Schalke on 5 September. The match, which is the second round of the German Bundesliga, is scheduled to begin at 19:30 Moscow time.
Kompany’s remarks come as Bayern prepare for that fixture, but Musiala’s involvement has not been confirmed. The midfielder’s condition remains the central issue surrounding his availability, following the two incidents during pre-season.
