Bayern Munich are expecting new signing Ismail Saibari to return to group training during the second week of August as the Moroccan midfielder continues his recovery from the injury that delayed the start of his career with the Bundesliga club.
Saibari has yet to make his first training appearance for Bayern after suffering a muscle injury while representing Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, shortly after completing his move to the German champions during the summer transfer window.
According to German magazine Kicker, the 25-year-old has made encouraging progress in his rehabilitation programme, with medical assessments indicating that he is close to returning to full training.
The report says Bayern’s medical staff have identified the second week of August as the likely timeframe for Saibari to rejoin his team-mates after completing treatment and rehabilitation.
His recovery has been closely monitored since he arrived in Munich, with the club taking a cautious approach to ensure he regains full fitness before returning to competitive action.
The injury interrupted what had been expected to be the beginning of a new chapter in the Moroccan international’s career following his summer transfer to Bayern.
Instead, he has spent the opening weeks of pre-season working through an individual recovery programme while the rest of the squad prepares for the new campaign.
According to the report, the injury occurred during Morocco’s Round of 16 match against Canada at the World Cup.
The setback not only brought an early end to Saibari’s involvement in the tournament but also delayed his integration into Bayern Munich’s squad after his arrival in Germany.
Kicker journalist Frank Linkisch reported that examinations carried out in Munich confirmed the midfielder had suffered a tear in one of the muscle fibres in his thigh.
The diagnosis required Saibari to remain away from team training while he underwent medical treatment and rehabilitation.
Although his recovery is progressing, the report states that the Moroccan midfielder will not travel with Bayern Munich for the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, scheduled to take place between 1 and 8 August.
The tour forms an important part of Bayern’s preparations for the new season and includes two friendly matches.
The Bundesliga side are due to face South Korean club Jeju SK before taking on Premier League side Aston Villa as they continue building fitness ahead of the competitive campaign.
Saibari is expected to miss both fixtures.
According to the report, the midfielder will require around ten more days before receiving medical clearance to participate in full group training.
If his rehabilitation continues as planned, he is expected to rejoin the squad shortly after Bayern return from their Asian tour.
His absence is also expected to create opportunities for other players during pre-season.
The report says Arjen Ibrahimovic is likely to receive increased playing time in the upcoming friendlies as he looks to demonstrate his readiness before the start of the new season.
Meanwhile, Bayern’s coaching staff are also monitoring the recovery of several other injured players.
According to the report, Serge Gnabry, Lennart Carl and Alphonso Davies are all expected to return in the coming weeks, strengthening the squad ahead of the start of official competitions.
