Barcelona’s interest in Atletico forward Julian Alvarez will not be affected by the possibility of Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus moving to the Catalan club, according to Mundo Deportivo journalist Fernando Polo.
Barcelona continue to view Alvarez as a target and could make another attempt to sign the Argentina international in the next transfer window. The club’s interest in Jesus is therefore being treated as a separate option to strengthen the attack, rather than as a final alternative to the Atletico forward.
The distinction means the potential arrival of Jesus would not automatically end Barcelona’s pursuit of Alvarez. Instead, the two players are understood to be considered as different possibilities within the club’s planning for its forward line.
Barcelona have recently begun work on a possible deal for Jesus, who is 29 and has a contract with Arsenal running until the summer of 2027. However, the interest in the Arsenal player has not altered the club’s reported position on Alvarez.
Polo’s report indicates that Barcelona’s plans regarding the Atletico forward remain in place, with the club retaining the option of returning with a fresh approach when the next transfer window opens. At the same time, Jesus is being assessed as an independent route to adding attacking strength.
The report does not state that Barcelona have chosen between the two players, nor does it suggest that interest in one has replaced interest in the other. Instead, it presents Jesus and Alvarez as separate matters in the Catalan club’s transfer planning.
