Barcelona are yet to fulfil a promise made to Lamine Yamal to improve his salary, with the Spain international still waiting for the club to make him their highest-paid player.
Yamal agreed a new contract with Barcelona in May 2025, when club president Joan Laporta promised to increase the teenager’s salary within the following months. However, about a year and a half after that agreement, the expected improvement has still not been implemented, according to Marca.
The delay has not developed into a major problem between the player and the club, but Yamal continues to wait for the salary adjustment that was promised to him.
The 19-year-old currently sits at the top of Barcelona’s wage structure alongside Rodri, with both players earning €31.25m a year before tax. Raphinha follows on €20.84m, while Jules Kounde, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri complete the leading earners.
Barcelona’s current salary figures are:
- Rodri – €31.25m
- Lamine Yamal – €31.25m
- Raphinha – €20.84m
- Jules Kounde – €19.55m
- Frenkie de Jong – €18m
- Pedri – €16m
Sources cited by Marca say Barcelona are currently dealing with several contract matters, including renewals for Raphinha, Espart and Bernal. The club’s plan is to address Yamal’s salary improvement after those issues have been dealt with.
Barcelona recognise that Yamal’s financial package needs to reflect his importance to the team and his performances on the pitch. His market value has risen to €220m, making him the most expensive footballer in the world at present.
However, the club’s current financial position limits its ability to make an immediate change to his salary.
La Liga has set Barcelona a spending limit of €582m for the current season, while the club’s actual wage bill is already close to that figure at about €581m. That leaves little room for Barcelona to increase Yamal’s earnings without greater financial flexibility.
The club is therefore expected to revisit the issue in 2027, when Barcelona’s spending limit is projected to rise to around €636m. That increase would provide the room needed to make the improvement and potentially fulfil the commitment made to Yamal.
Despite the unresolved salary issue, Yamal has made an outstanding start to the current campaign. He has scored 12 goals and supplied seven assists in 11 matches for Barcelona and Spain across all competitions, giving him 19 goal contributions.
His form has strengthened his importance to Barcelona, with the club continuing to regard his salary as something that should eventually reflect his standing within the team.
After the current international break, Yamal is expected to return to Barcelona duty when the club face Getafe at Camp Nou next Saturday in the eighth round of the Spanish League.
For now, the winger remains at the top of Barcelona’s wage list alongside Rodri, but the promise of a further salary improvement remains unfulfilled.
