Joao Cancelo marked his return to Barcelona’s team by helping the club complete a 5-0 away victory over Elche, coming off the bench in the 80th minute as the Catalan side made a commanding start to the league season.
The full-back had recently rejoined the team and was introduced late in the match, with Barcelona already in a dominant position. His appearance added to an emphatic performance on the road as the visitors secured a convincing win without conceding.
After the final whistle, Barcelona used their official social media account to welcome Cancelo back to the side. The club posted: “Welcome back, Cancelo ❤️”
The message paid tribute to the defender’s return following his absence from the team. Although he entered the game with only 10 minutes of normal time remaining, his involvement came as Barcelona brought the match to a successful conclusion and confirmed their strong opening to the league campaign.
Barcelona’s five-goal victory over Elche was the central result of the day, but Cancelo’s return provided an additional talking point after the match. The full-back’s late introduction ensured that he played a part in the away success, while the scoreline underlined the extent of Barcelona’s control.
The result also gave the club an opportunity to publicly acknowledge Cancelo’s comeback. Its brief social media message, accompanied by a red-heart emoji, was directed at the player after his return to competitive action for the team.
Cancelo came on in the 80th minute, meaning his contribution was limited to the closing stages. However, Barcelona’s performance had already placed them in a position to secure a comfortable victory, and they finished the match with a five-goal advantage.
The win represents a strong beginning to the league season for Barcelona. Their performance against Elche combined a prolific attacking display with a clean sheet, while Cancelo’s return offered another positive detail from an emphatic away result.
The club’s official post was subsequently highlighted with the message: “Welcome back, Cancelo ❤️”
