Barcelona have made an approach to RB Leipzig to assess the availability and possible transfer cost of centre-back Castello Lukeba, according to Sport.es.
The Catalan club’s representatives have contacted the Bundesliga side to gather information about the 23-year-old defender and establish the financial terms that could be involved in a potential move.
Lukeba’s profile is understood to have the support of Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick. The German manager is familiar with the player’s performances in the Bundesliga and is backing his candidacy as Barcelona consider defensive options.
Barcelona’s interest makes Lukeba the latest player from the German top flight to be linked with a move to the Spanish club. However, the initial contact with RB Leipzig has been described as an attempt to determine the defender’s availability and estimated price rather than confirmation that a transfer has been agreed.
Lukeba joined RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 and has since made 101 appearances for the German club. During that time, he has recorded three goal involvements.
The defender remains under contract with RB Leipzig until 2029, a long-term agreement that strengthens the club’s negotiating position should Barcelona decide to pursue the player. His current market value is estimated at 50m euros.
Barcelona’s enquiry is therefore focused on whether a deal for Lukeba could be made possible and what level of investment would be required. The 23-year-old’s contract situation and valuation will be central to any further discussions between the two clubs.
For now, the information available points to Barcelona exploring the conditions of a possible transfer, with Flick’s knowledge of Lukeba’s Bundesliga performances reinforcing the player’s appeal. No agreement between Barcelona and RB Leipzig has been reported.
