Barcelona tie Pedro Rodriguez to the club with new deal until 2030

Barcelona have extended the contract of 18-year-old midfielder Pedro Rodriguez until 30 June 2030, securing the future of one of the latest talents to emerge from the club’s La Masia academy.

The player’s previous agreement was due to expire in June, but Barcelona have now formally confirmed the renewal after the two sides reached an agreement earlier. The decision underlines the club’s belief in Pedro despite strong competition for places in midfield.

Pedro joined Barcelona’s academy in 2019 and began last season with the Juvenil A team. He was promoted to Barcelona Atletic this summer, having already made an appearance for the reserve side in 2024 while Albert Sanchez was manager.

The midfielder has come on as a substitute in three of Barcelona Atletic’s four matches this season. He was then handed his first start in the team’s away victory over Tudelano, and is expected to retain his place for the forthcoming game against Logrones.

Pedro is regarded as a technically gifted midfielder, with strong awareness of his surroundings and an ability to deliver accurate passes. He can operate as a holding midfielder or move forward to contribute in more attacking positions, qualities which have helped him compete for a regular role with Barcelona Atletic.

Competition for places remains intense, with several promising players also pushing for opportunities in the reserve team. Pedro Villar is expected to be sidelined for a lengthy period because of injury, while Ebrima Tunkara has returned to training and could be included in the squad next week.

Oriol Gorin and Mirza Katovic have also been absent recently because of international commitments with their respective national teams.

Pedro’s decision to remain at Barcelona comes despite interest from major European clubs in recent seasons. He has instead chosen to continue his development in Catalonia, where he will aim to prove his ability and establish himself among the La Masia prospects viewed as part of the club’s long-term plans.
