Barcelona have secured the future of Xavi Espart by extending the young player’s contract until the summer of 2030.
The agreement, announced by the club on Thursday evening, includes a significant improvement to Espart’s salary and a substantial increase in the value of his release clause, according to Sport.
Espart had previously been tied to Barcelona on terms linked to the club’s reserve team, with that contract due to expire in 2028. The club’s hierarchy therefore moved quickly to protect one of its most highly regarded young players after his impressive start to the season.
The new deal rewards Espart’s rapid progress and reflects the increasingly important role he has begun to play under manager Hansi Flick.
The player started training with Barcelona’s first team and becoming involved in its environment at the beginning of 2026. Since then, his opportunities have grown steadily, culminating in his first appearance for the senior side in the Champions League.
In mid-August, Espart was informed that he had officially become a full first-team player. He was also handed the number 12 shirt.
Flick considers Espart an important tactical option because of his ability to operate in several positions. Although he has established himself as a left-back who plays on the opposite foot, he has also shown that he can perform reliably at right-back and in midfield.
Midfield was Espart’s main position for most of his career, and his versatility gives Flick a range of solutions when selecting his team.
Barcelona’s decision also underlines the club’s commitment to developing young players and promoting talent from its academy. By extending Espart’s contract, they have protected a player viewed as an important part of both the team’s present and its future.
The club marked the agreement on social media with the message: “The future is his, and it is blaugrana. Xavi Espart 2030”, alongside blue and red heart emojis. The post was published by FC Barcelona on 8 October 2026.
