Barcelona reluctant to join race for Manchester United prospect JJ Gabriel

Barcelona are reportedly prepared to withdraw from the race for Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel, despite the 16-year-old having held talks with the club.

The Catalan side are understood to be unconvinced by Gabriel and do not want to become involved in a bidding war for the highly rated midfielder.

Gabriel attracted attention earlier this season when he asked Manchester United to terminate his contract after failing to make his debut in the club’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Sabah.

His request placed his future at Manchester United in doubt and led to interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs. Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG have all been linked with a move for the teenager.

Gabriel was later seen in Barcelona and was understood to be negotiating with the club, while also holding discussions with Real Madrid.

However, Spanish outlet Sport reports that Barcelona are not fully convinced they should proceed with a deal. The club are now said to be ready to step away rather than compete financially for his signature.

That leaves Real Madrid and PSG as the more likely destinations. Both clubs are reportedly willing to offer Gabriel more money than Barcelona, strengthening their positions in the race for the Manchester United youngster.

Gabriel’s next move is therefore increasingly expected to be either to the Spanish capital or to PSG, with Barcelona appearing less willing to pursue an agreement.
