Barcelona have denied that Pedri is carrying a new injury after explaining why the Spain midfielder has not yet joined the club’s full training sessions during pre-season.
Pedri returned to Barcelona last Wednesday alongside the other players from the Spain squad. However, while those team-mates have resumed work with the rest of the group, the midfielder has so far followed a separate programme.
His absence from collective training prompted speculation that he had suffered another injury and could miss the start of the new season. Barcelona have now rejected that suggestion, saying there is no new physical problem affecting the player.
The club addressed the situation on social media by publishing a photograph of Pedri and confirming that he is “following a special preparation programme in the first days of the pre-season period”.
That explanation is intended to clarify why the 23-year-old has not appeared in the same training sessions as the rest of the squad since reporting back for duty. Barcelona did not announce a fresh injury or indicate that Pedri is unavailable because of a medical issue.
Pedri’s return coincided with that of the other Spain internationals, who also came back to the club last Wednesday. The difference in their training schedules led to questions about his condition, but Barcelona’s statement attributed his absence from group work to an individual preparation plan instead.
The midfielder’s status will be watched as Barcelona continue their preparations for the new campaign. The club are scheduled to play Basel in a friendly on 16 August, although the information released by Barcelona did not confirm whether Pedri will take part in that match.
For now, the club’s message is that Pedri is completing a tailored programme at the beginning of pre-season rather than recovering from a newly reported injury. The clarification comes after concerns grew that he might be forced to miss the opening part of the season.
Barcelona’s update included only the explanation that the player is undertaking special preparation in the early days of the pre-season period. It did not provide any further details about the length of the programme or set out a timetable for his return to full team training.
The club’s next confirmed fixture is the meeting with Basel on 16 August. It will be Barcelona’s next opportunity to assess preparations for the season, while Pedri’s progress through his individual schedule remains the immediate focus following the clarification.
