Barcelona are optimistic Raphinha will be fit for their upcoming matches after medical tests ruled out a more serious muscle injury.
The Brazil forward underwent examinations on Friday after reporting discomfort in his right thigh. The club’s initial internal assessment found muscle oedema in the area but did not identify a significant muscle injury.
Raphinha arrived at Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training complex shortly after 11 AM for the tests. He left later in the day, with his vehicle entering the underground car park directly rather than stopping at the main entrance, where media and supporters had gathered.
Barcelona expect the player to be able to train and play normally in the coming matches. However, manager Flick could still decide to rest him when LaLiga resumes against Getafe on Saturday, October 10.
Raphinha returned early from Brazil’s training camp during the current international break after experiencing discomfort in the second of two friendly matches.
He played the entire first game and started the second wearing the captain’s armband. The player scored Brazil’s equaliser before half-time but did not come back onto the pitch for the second half.
Sport reports that Friday morning’s medical assessment ruled out a more serious muscle problem, increasing Barcelona’s confidence in Raphinha’s physical condition.
The club is not expected to publish a medical statement today. The Brazilian Football Confederation may instead provide an update on the forward’s condition.
