Barcelona’s futsal side have underlined their grip on the Spanish game after sweeping all five positional prizes in the end-of-season awards voted for by Primera Division players.
The accolades, organised by the Asociacion de Jugadores de Futbol Sala (AJFS), come just days after Barcelona sealed the league title, reinforcing the scale of the club’s superiority on the domestic front.
Five members of the Barcelona squad were named the best performers in their roles for the season. Didac Plana was selected as best goalkeeper, Antonio Perez as best defender, Luciano Gauna as best right winger, Matheus as best left winger and Pito as the outstanding pivot.
The awards are based on votes cast by players across Spain’s top futsal tier, with Barcelona’s clean sweep reflecting both individual excellence and the team’s collective strength during a campaign in which they finished the regular season on top before going on to win the championship through the play-offs.
Clear margins in player voting
In defence, Antonio Perez topped the ballot ahead of two fellow specialists in his position – his Barcelona team-mate Joao Victor and ElPozo Murcia player Gadeia.
On the right flank, Luciano Gauna earned more votes than another Barcelona colleague, Toure, and Inter Movistar’s Javi Minguez.
The left-wing vote was also dominated by a Barcelona player, with Matheus chosen ahead of team-mate Eric Martel and ElPozo Murcia’s Marcel.
In the pivot role, Pito emerged as the players’ choice, finishing above Dener of ElPozo Murcia and Daniel of Manzanares in the voting.
Taken together, the results highlight a season in which Barcelona’s leading figures were consistently regarded by their peers as the standout performers in almost every area of the court. The club’s latest league title, secured after a strong run through the knockout phase, has now been matched by a haul of individual honours that underscores their status as the benchmark side in Spain.
Pre-season plans confirmed
Attention at the club is already turning to the defence of that title, with Barcelona’s futsal squad due to begin preparations for the new campaign on 3 August.
Players will first undergo routine medical tests before travelling to Encamp in Andorra for their traditional pre-season training camp.
The Andorra trip will serve as the base for their physical and tactical work ahead of the forthcoming season, as Barcelona look to sustain their domestic dominance and build on a year in which both team success and personal recognition have gone hand in hand.
