Barcelona confirm Rodri will miss Atletico Madrid clash

Barcelona have confirmed Rodri will be unavailable for their crucial LaLiga meeting with Atletico Madrid on 8 November.

The defending champions visit Diego Simeone’s side with a two-point lead at the top of the Spanish top flight. Atletico are currently second, making the match an important test of the teams’ momentum before the November international break.

Barcelona already expect to be without Eric Garcia, Dani Olmo and Jules Kounde. Rodri has now joined that list after being substituted at half-time during Wednesday’s 3-0 UEFA Champions League victory over Aston Villa.

Spain’s captain reported discomfort to Barcelona manager Hansi Flick shortly before the interval, and the club opted not to take any risks with the former Manchester City player. Marc Bernal came on in his place.

Flick did not offer an assessment of Rodri’s condition immediately after the match, but Barcelona have since confirmed that he will miss the trip to Madrid. Bernal is on standby to start, ahead of Frenkie de Jong.
