Bamba Dieng has successfully completed his medical in Belgrade as the Senegal international moves closer to joining Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade.
The 26-year-old forward underwent the examination in the Serbian capital on Friday, with no particular problems identified. The medical represents a significant step towards completing his transfer, although the final administrative details still need to be settled.
According to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato, negotiations are progressing and the remaining elements of the deal are currently being finalised. Dieng is expected to sign a two-year contract with Red Star Belgrade, with the agreement also set to include an option for a further season.
Unless there is a late change to the situation, the player’s move should be officially completed shortly.
Dieng’s arrival would give his career a fresh direction as he prepares to join one of Serbia’s most prestigious clubs. His attacking qualities and experience at the highest level are expected to provide Red Star Belgrade with another option in the forward positions.
The Serbian club moved quickly after Dieng’s proposed transfer to Lazio fell through. That failed move was previously explained exclusively by Africafoot, and Red Star Belgrade subsequently advanced its own interest in the Senegalese striker.
Dieng is currently valued at €15m by Transfermarkt. During his time with Les Merlus, the player reportedly earned an annual salary of €900,000, equivalent to 585,000,000 CFA francs.
The potential transfer comes as Red Star Belgrade prepares for an important European fixture. The club will soon play the first leg of its UEFA Europa League qualifying play-off against Viktoria Plzen.
Betting company 1xBet has listed Red Star Belgrade as the favourite for that match, offering odds of 1.82 for a home victory. A draw is priced at 3.95, while a win for Viktoria Plzen is rated at 4.10.
For Dieng, completing the move would mark another stage in an international career that has already taken him to the highest levels of club football. Red Star Belgrade now appears to be on the verge of securing his signature, with the successful medical allowing both sides to focus on finalising the paperwork before the deal is announced.
