Arsenal have scored in 18 consecutive Premier League matches after beating Aston Villa in the second round of this season’s English top flight.

The sequence is Arsenal’s best of its kind since the period between August 2018 and January 2019. During that earlier spell, the club scored in 20 consecutive Premier League matches, meaning the present run is two games short of matching that mark.
Arsenal will have the chance to continue their scoring form in the next round of the English championship, when they face Chelsea. The London fixture will provide the club with an opportunity to move closer to the 20-match record established during the 2018-19 period.
For now, the Aston Villa result has strengthened Arsenal’s latest scoring statistic. The club’s ability to avoid being shut out has carried over from the previous Premier League campaign into the opening stages of the new one, with the single goal against Aston Villa enough to preserve the sequence.
The achievement also places the emphasis on consistency rather than the size of the winning margin. Arsenal did not need a high-scoring performance to extend their run: one goal was sufficient to beat Aston Villa and keep the club on course for a possible repeat of their longer sequence from 2018-19.
With Chelsea next, Arsenal’s immediate task is clear. Another goal would take the run to 19 consecutive Premier League matches, while a further two matches would equal the club’s benchmark of 20 games achieved between August 2018 and January 2019.
