There was disappointment for Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophee des Champions, as the Uefa Champions League holders lost 1-0 to 10-man Lens. Florian Thauvin scored the only goal of the match in the first half to secure the trophy for Lens.
Liverpool ended their pre-season programme with a 2-0 victory over Como at Anfield. Cody Gakpo and Jeremy Jacquet scored, with Jacquet described as the standout performer as Liverpool recorded a confidence-boosting win. The match also marked Araujo’s debut for the Reds.
In Major League Soccer, Lionel Messi missed his third consecutive penalty as Inter Miami suffered a 4-1 defeat by Eastern Conference leaders Nashville SC on Saturday.
Barcelona are also set to bring Joao Cancelo back to the club. Romano reported: “Here we go! Romano: Joao Cancelo is returning to Barcelona”, adding that an agreement had been completed.
