The Arab Club Championship is set to return after a four-year absence, with reigning champions Al-Nassr set to lead the competition’s revival in Cairo during the summer of 2027.
According to Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, the tournament will be staged in the Egyptian capital and will feature a selection of leading clubs from across the Arab world.
Al-Nassr will enter as holders after beating fellow Saudi club Al-Hilal in the final of the previous edition. That tournament was hosted by Saudi Arabia in 2023, with several of the region’s major clubs taking part.
The next edition is expected to include clubs that have won their domestic league titles. However, the organisers have not yet announced how many teams will participate or confirmed the competition format.
The planned return follows several previous indications that the tournament would be revived, although those plans did not come to fruition.
The competition’s return has been complicated by a crowded summer football calendar, including the 2025 Club World Cup and the 2026 tournaments involving national teams.
Al-Nassr will now be seeking to retain the title if the tournament goes ahead in Cairo, four years after their victory over Al-Hilal.
