Irish-Nigerian centre-back Andrew Omobamidele has joined RSC Anderlecht from Strasbourg on a season-long loan running until 30 June 2027.
The 24-year-old defender moves to the Belgian club after making two Ligue 1 appearances for Strasbourg at the start of the 2026-27 campaign. He started both matches, completing 100% of the available minutes, and arrives at Anderlecht with 180 minutes of league football already behind him this season.
Omobamidele’s move to Strasbourg became permanent in July 2025, when the French club signed him from Nottingham Forest for €10.5m. He had initially joined Strasbourg on loan from Forest in January 2025 before returning to the club at the end of that season.
The defender had moved to Forest from Norwich in September 2023 for €12.85m. His senior career began at Norwich, where he progressed from the club’s under-23 side before establishing himself in the first-team pathway. He also spent part of his youth career with Norwich after joining from Leixlip United in Ireland.
Omobamidele, who was born in Leixlip, stands 1.88m tall and is predominantly right-footed. His preferred position is centre-back, the role in which he has played throughout his recent spells in England and France.
His career includes a Championship title with Norwich City during the 2020-21 season. That success came during the campaign in which he was part of the Norwich setup before his later move into senior football.
Anderlecht’s agreement gives the Belgian side the defender for the 2026-27 season, while Strasbourg remain his parent club. The move also represents a return to a new league for Omobamidele after his recent period in Ligue 1, where he recorded two appearances before switching countries.
Omobamidele is now contracted to Anderlecht on loan until 30 June 2027, completing his move from Strasbourg on 2 September 2026.
