Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have arrived in Egypt ahead of Thursday’s decisive WAFU B qualifying final against Nigeria’s Edo Queens, with a place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League at stake.
The rescheduled encounter will resume from the start of extra time, with the score tied at 2-2 following the original final played on September 5 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The match was initially decided by a penalty shootout, which Edo Queens won 4-1. However, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) later annulled the result after Ampem Darkoa protested that the teams had proceeded directly to penalties without playing the required extra time.
CAF’s Organising Committee for Women’s Football ruled on September 26 that the match should resume from the end of regulation time. The decision was subsequently upheld by the CAF Appeal Board on October 16.
Under the ruling, the teams will play two 15-minute periods of extra time. If the score remains level after the additional 30 minutes, a fresh penalty shootout will determine the winner. CAF has also directed that different match officials be appointed for the continuation.
Women’s Champions League place awaits winner
Ampem Darkoa’s arrival in Cairo sets the stage for a high-stakes encounter between the Ghanaian and Nigerian champions, with the winner securing the WAFU B qualification slot for the continental tournament.
The successful team will remain in Egypt for the main CAF Women’s Champions League competition, scheduled to run from November 1 to 15.
For Ampem Darkoa, Thursday’s match offers another opportunity to secure qualification after the original final ended in controversy. Edo Queens, meanwhile, will be seeking to settle the contest on the pitch after their initial shootout victory was overturned.
With only 30 minutes of extra time separating the teams from a possible penalty shootout, the encounter is expected to be a tense conclusion to a final that has remained unresolved for nearly two months.
