Senegalese forward Amadou Coundoul of Sporting Gijon is being linked with a summer move to Portuguese second-tier side Coimbra in what would be the latest cross-border deal between LaLiga2 and Liga Portugal 2.
The 24-year-old centre-forward, under contract at El Molinon until 30 June 2029, has attracted interest after breaking into Sporting’s first team last season. Standing at 1.91m and operating through the middle, Coundoul featured in both the league and Copa del Rey as he adjusted to the step up from the club’s second string.
Coundoul joined Sporting Gijon’s senior squad on 12 August 2025 after a spell with Sporting Atletico, having previously played in Spain’s lower divisions. His rise through that route has helped keep any potential fee within reach, with his current market valuation standing at around €200,000, a figure that would make him a relatively low-cost option for Coimbra as they look to strengthen their attack.
The striker’s most sustained run of minutes last term came in Spain’s lower tiers, where he totalled 16 appearances and three goals for Sporting’s B team, form that earned him further opportunities in LaLiga2 and the Copa del Rey, including a goal and an assist in the domestic cup.
Born in Guediawaye and right-footed, Coundoul has developed entirely within the Spanish system since leaving Senegal, and any move to Coimbra would maintain his career within Iberian football. For now, he remains tied to Sporting Gijon on a long-term deal, leaving the Spanish side in a strong position should negotiations with the Portuguese club advance.
