Ivory Coast forward Amad Diallo is expected to remain sidelined for about another month with an ankle injury, ruling him out of the Elephants’ upcoming international fixtures.
The Manchester United winger is also set to miss the next international break as he continues his recovery from the injury sustained during pre-season training.
Diallo has not featured at the beginning of the Premier League campaign and was again absent from Manchester United’s squad for their recent match against Manchester City.
United manager Michael Carrick has indicated that the 24-year-old is still some way from returning to action, although he has avoided putting a specific timeframe on his recovery.
“Amad is not quite close, in terms of days [away] from returning,” he said following the derby loss.
The Ivorian’s continued absence is a setback for both Manchester United and Ivory Coast, with the Elephants due to face Ghana and Somalia during the forthcoming international window as part of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign.
Diallo’s ankle problem means he will not be available for those fixtures, depriving Ivory Coast of an attacking option during an important period of their qualifying campaign.
The forward picked up the injury during training in pre-season, with an initial prognosis suggesting he could be out for up to six weeks.
That assessment has kept him out of United’s opening Premier League matches and has also affected his involvement under Carrick.
The United manager has left Diallo out of recent matchday squads as the player continues his rehabilitation.
His injury has also ruled him out of Ivory Coast’s forthcoming AFCON qualifying matches against Ghana and Somalia.
The Elephants will therefore have to prepare for the two fixtures without one of their attacking options.
Diallo’s absence from the international break means he will continue his rehabilitation while his Ivory Coast team-mates pursue qualification for the 2027 AFCON.
