Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has responded to reports linking midfielder Enzo Fernandez with a possible move away from the club, saying: “I wouldn’t be surprised by anything.”
Manchester City are reportedly interested in the Argentina international and are planning to make an official offer before the transfer window closes.
The speculation comes after Fernandez began Chelsea’s Premier League campaign on the bench in Monday’s match against Fulham. He was introduced as a substitute in the 65th minute as Chelsea secured a 3-2 victory.
Alonso was asked about the reports surrounding Fernandez’s future following the match. His brief response “I wouldn’t be surprised by anything” did not rule out the possibility of the midfielder leaving Stamford Bridge.
There has been no confirmation that Manchester City have formally submitted a bid for Fernandez. However, according to the reports, the club is considering making an offer before the end of the transfer window.
Fernandez’s appearance against Fulham came during a match in which Chelsea opened the Premier League season with a narrow win. He entered the game during the second half, with the scoreline eventually finishing 3-2 in Chelsea’s favour.
The midfielder’s future is now the subject of attention, with Manchester City identified as the club currently showing interest. Alonso’s comments are likely to increase speculation over whether Fernandez remains part of Chelsea’s plans or could become the subject of a late transfer approach.
For now, the only confirmed development is Fernandez’s involvement from the bench in Chelsea’s victory over Fulham. The reported possibility of a Manchester City offer remains unresolved, with the transfer window still open and time available for the situation to develop.
