New Zealand Rugby and the All Blacks are mourning the death of Logan Cadwallader, who had served as the team’s Head of Security for a decade.
Cadwallader died after a “medical event” at the All Blacks’ team hotel in Edinburgh on Sunday morning, with his death confirmed early this week.
He had travelled with the team throughout his 10 years in the All Blacks environment and was regarded as a highly respected and much-loved member of the group.
The news came as the All Blacks prepared for their upcoming November internationals. Head coach Dave Rennie said the team was struggling to process the loss.
“Logan has been a big part of the All Blacks family for a long time. He was the ultimate team man, loved and trusted by all and a true professional,” Rennie said.
“He looked after all of us, players and staff, and he was a good mate to many in this team. We are all devastated.
“Our thoughts are with his wife, Nannette, his children, Trey, Brooke and Mia, and his wider family and friends. As a team, we will honour Logan and the legacy he has left on the All Blacks.”
New Zealand Rugby also paid tribute to Cadwallader’s military service, which was carried out at the highest level of the New Zealand Defence Force.
He served in the New Zealand Army and the New Zealand Special Air Service Regiment (NZSAS), with deployments to Bosnia, East Timor, Afghanistan and the Solomon Islands among some of the world’s most demanding environments.
“His service to his country, and the values he carried from it, were reflected in everything he did for the team,” New Zealand Rugby said in a statement.
“New Zealand Rugby is supporting Logan’s family, as well as All Blacks players and staff.”
The All Blacks are currently on tour, and New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Steve Lancaster said Cadwallader’s contribution would remain fondly remembered.
“Logan was a valued and trusted member of the management group over the past decade, and he will be greatly missed by everyone who worked alongside him,” Lancaster said.
“On behalf of New Zealand Rugby, I extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this very difficult time.”
