CR Belouizdad warn of “special” Zamalek test ahead of semi-final clash
CR Belouizdad have underlined the significance of their upcoming encounter with Zamalek SC, with assistant coach Hicham Ghouzia describing the match as one requiring exceptional focus and preparation.
The two sides are set to meet on 10 April at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final, a fixture that carries considerable weight for both clubs as they seek continental success.
Speaking after his side’s recent domestic victory, Ghouzia highlighted the importance of balancing league commitments with preparations for the high-profile continental tie.
“We earned 3 important points against Paradou. We want to achieve the largest number of points in the postponed matches, in order to return to our natural position in the league.”
CR Belouizdad secured a 3-0 win over Paradou in the Algerian league, a result that strengthens their domestic campaign and provides momentum ahead of a demanding run of fixtures. However, attention is already turning to the challenge posed by Zamalek, one of Africa’s most established clubs.
“Special character” demands extra focus
Ghouzia made clear that the semi-final clash will require a different level of preparation compared to routine league matches, acknowledging both the stature of the opponent and the stakes involved.
“The Zamalek match has a special character and requires special preparation. We have a large number of matches, but this is our fate and we must deal with the situation.”
His comments reflect the congested schedule faced by the team, with multiple competitions placing demands on both players and technical staff. Despite this, the coaching team appears determined to approach each match with a structured plan, prioritising immediate objectives before shifting focus to upcoming fixtures.
Domestic priorities remain intact
While the Confederation Cup tie looms large, CR Belouizdad are not overlooking their league responsibilities. Ghouzia emphasised that the team’s immediate attention remains on securing positive results domestically before fully turning their focus to the semi-final.
“We have a league match, we are focused on winning it, and then we will shift our focus to the Zamalek match after that.”
This approach suggests a calculated strategy aimed at maintaining consistency in performance while gradually preparing for one of the most important matches of their season.
Continental stage set
The Confederation of African Football has appointed Ismail Mahmoud to officiate the first-leg encounter, adding another layer of structure to a fixture already attracting significant attention.
With both teams eyeing a place in the final, the semi-final is expected to be closely contested. CR Belouizdad will look to capitalise on home advantage in the first leg, while Zamalek are likely to rely on their experience in continental competitions.
Balancing ambition and pressure
As the match approaches, the emphasis within the CR Belouizdad camp remains on preparation and adaptability. The combination of domestic ambitions and continental aspirations presents a complex challenge, but one the team appears ready to confront.
For Ghouzia and his colleagues, the message is clear: success will depend not only on tactical execution but also on the ability to manage the pressures of a demanding schedule.
