Algeria women thrash Central African Republic 8-0 in Olympic qualifying

Algeria’s women’s team moved towards the third round of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifiers with an emphatic 8-0 victory over Central African Republic in the first leg of their second-round tie.

The match was played on Friday at Stade du 5-Juillet-1962 in Algiers, where the hosts established complete control before half-time.

Central African Republic defender Ndoumba Yatrein scored an own goal in the 20th minute to give Algeria the lead. Marine Dafeur doubled the advantage six minutes later, before Lina Boussaha made it 3-0 in the 30th minute.

Sofia Bekhaled added a fourth goal in the 36th minute, leaving Algeria in a commanding position at the interval.

The hosts continued to dominate after the break. Nouhad Naili extended Algeria’s lead in the 51st minute, while Ines Belloumou struck in the 68th minute.

Lynda Bendris scored the seventh goal in the 80th minute, and Nesrine Bahlouli completed the rout in the first minute of added time.

Bahlouli marked her first appearance for Algeria by closing the scoring and adding to an outstanding team performance.

The result gives Algeria a strong advantage ahead of the second leg, with the winner progressing to the third round of qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The return match will take place at Stade du 5-Juillet-1962 on Tuesday, 13 October, at 18:00.
