Algeria women close in on Olympic qualifying progress against Central African Republic

Algeria’s women are on the brink of reaching the third round of the African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games when they face Central African Republic on Tuesday.

Farid Benstiti’s side take a commanding advantage into the second leg after an 8-0 victory in the first meeting in Algiers four days ago. The return fixture will be played at Stade Hocine Ait Ahmed in Tizi-Ouzou, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 French time and 18:00 in Algeria.

No broadcaster has been announced in France. Viewers in Algeria can watch the match live on ENTV and TV6.

Algeria produced a dominant display in the first leg at Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 on 9 October, leaving them almost certain to advance to the next stage of the Olympic qualifying campaign.

Seven different Algeria players scored in that match, alongside an own goal by Central African Republic captain Havila Ndoumba. Marine Dafeur, Lina Boussaha, Sofia Bekhaled, Naili Nouhed, Ines Belloumou, Lynda Bendris and debutant Nesrime Bahlouli were all on the scoresheet.

The result has put the bronze medallists from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations within reach of a historic Olympic qualification. Should they confirm their place in the next round, Algeria would still need to overcome three further finals before reaching the Olympic tournament.

Their possible opponents in the next stage include Burkina Faso, who defeated Equatorial Guinea 3-1 in Ouagadougou in the first leg of their tie. The second match in that contest is also scheduled for Tuesday.
