Algeria forward Anis Hadj Moussa has withdrawn from the national team squad because of injury and will miss the side’s final two international matches, the Algerian Football Federation has announced.
The Feyenoord player sustained a minor injury during Algeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Zambia, where he came off the bench in the 70th minute and went on to score.
Hadj Moussa was subsequently called up for Algeria’s next fixture but remained an unused substitute as a precaution.
The 24-year-old has now been ruled out of the team’s final two international matches after suffering a further setback during training.
The Algerian Football Federation confirmed his withdrawal through its official channels, with Hadj Moussa and Adem Zorgane both unavailable for the match against Niger.
The exact nature of Hadj Moussa’s injury and how long he is expected to remain out have not been disclosed.
His absence comes at an unfortunate time for the Feyenoord forward, who has made an impressive start to the season at club level.
Hadj Moussa has scored five goals and provided one assist so far this season, making him an important attacking player for the Rotterdam club.
The Algerian forward had also been able to make an impact for his country despite his limited involvement in the previous international fixture.
After coming on against Zambia in the 70th minute, he found the net, adding to a strong start to his campaign.
However, concerns over his fitness led to Algeria taking a cautious approach in the following match, when he was named among the substitutes but did not feature.
That precaution was followed by his latest injury setback, forcing him to leave the national team camp.
The federation has not provided details on whether the injury is expected to keep him out beyond the current international window.
For Feyenoord, the timing will also be closely monitored as the club prepares to return to league action.
The Rotterdam side are scheduled to resume their league campaign on 10 October with a home fixture against AZ.
Hadj Moussa’s availability for that match remains unclear based on the information provided by the Algerian Football Federation.
The forward’s withdrawal means Algeria will have to continue without one of their attacking options for the remaining fixtures of the international window.
His absence is also a blow given the form he has shown at Feyenoord, where his five goals and one assist have contributed to an encouraging beginning to the season.
The injury does not appear to have been described as serious, with the available information characterising the problem as minor, but the federation has yet to confirm its nature or expected recovery period.
For now, Hadj Moussa will leave the national team setup and focus on his recovery.
Algeria will therefore have to manage the remaining international fixtures without the Feyenoord forward, while the player waits for further clarity on his fitness.
With his club campaign due to resume shortly after the international break, Feyenoord will also be hoping for a quick recovery from a player who has already made a significant contribution this season.
Hadj Moussa’s immediate absence is therefore a concern for both club and country, although the full extent of the injury remains unknown.
