Aleksandar Stankovic has no regrets about staying with Internazionale after head coach Chivu assured him he will have opportunities to play, according to Inter News.
The 20-year-old academy graduate was the subject of speculation over his future during the recent international break, but his position has not changed. Stankovic remains convinced that turning down approaches from English clubs last summer was the right decision.
A move to England could have offered him regular football and potentially a starting role, much as he experienced with Club Brugge last season. However, he chose to remain at Internazionale and continues to believe that decision will benefit his career.
Stankovic has had fewer minutes than any other player in the Internazionale squad apart from Spence. Before joining up with the Serbia national team, he had made only two appearances this season, playing a combined 15 minutes in Serie A and the Champions League.
His lack of involvement has reportedly been addressed by Chivu, who has become an important source of support for the young midfielder at Milan. The coach has reiterated his confidence in Stankovic, urged him not to lose faith and told him that his opportunity will come soon.
That reassurance could prove particularly important during a demanding spell for Internazionale. The club are scheduled to play nine matches over the next 29 days, creating the possibility of increased rotation and more chances for players who have so far featured less regularly.
Chivu discussed the situation during an interview with The Locker Room Chronicles. Stankovic must now be ready to take advantage when the opportunity he has been promised arrives.
Despite the limited minutes so far, the Serbia international remains confident in his choice to continue his development at Internazionale rather than pursue a move to England.
