Alavés opt against permanent move for Diabaté as transfer doubts grow

Ivorian striker Ibrahim Diabaté is facing an uncertain future after Spanish side Deportivo Alavés opted not to activate the purchase clause in his loan agreement, leaving the forward’s long-term situation unresolved.

The decision means the La Liga club will not proceed with a permanent transfer for the attacker following his season-long spell in Spain, where he was unable to fully convince the club’s technical and financial decision-makers.

Diabaté arrived at Alavés with hopes of establishing himself in one of Europe’s top leagues.

However, despite showing glimpses of promise in attacking phases and contributing positively in certain matches, he was unable to secure a consistent place in the starting lineup.

The main factor behind Alavés’ decision was the cost attached to the transfer.

The club’s management reportedly considers the agreed fee for a permanent deal too high and has therefore decided not to take financial risks in completing the move.

While his performances were described as encouraging at times, they were not deemed sufficient to justify the investment required to trigger the purchase option.

The situation now leaves Diabaté in a state of limbo as the loan spell comes to an end.

With Alavés stepping back, the striker must now assess his next step, which could involve a return to his parent club or a possible continuation in Spanish football under different terms.

There remains a possibility that negotiations could be reopened, but only if the transfer fee is reduced to a more affordable level for the La Liga side. At present, however, no agreement has been reached and no permanent deal is in place.

Diabaté’s future is expected to become clearer in the coming weeks as clubs begin planning for the new season and assessing attacking options across the transfer market.

For the Ivorian forward, the next stage of his career will depend on whether another club steps forward with an offer or whether renewed discussions with Alavés lead to a revised agreement.

The uncertainty comes at a crucial stage in his development, as he looks to establish himself more firmly at top-flight level after gaining valuable experience in Spain.

For now, though, his situation remains open, with multiple possible outcomes still on the table as the transfer window approaches.
