Al Ahly have decided not to consider professional offers for any of their first-team players during the current transfer window as the club seeks to maintain stability ahead of the new season.
The Egyptian club’s management has instructed that offers for players should not be discussed, whether they are made formally or informally, as preparations continue for domestic and continental competitions.
The decision comes amid reported interest in midfielder Emam Ashour, with Turkish club Konyaspor previously reported to have submitted an offer worth €4.25m for the player.
However, an Al Ahly source said the club had received no such offer.
The source said the club’s priority was to preserve the existing squad and ensure the team has the personnel required to compete for trophies during the coming campaign.
Al Ahly concerned about squad stability
According to the source, one of the main factors behind the decision is the club’s concern that some agents could create disagreements within the squad by attempting to influence players over possible moves.
The source described these efforts as attempts “to sow discord within the team and try to create unnecessary crises”.
Al Ahly have also been working to extend the contracts of several players as part of a broader effort to maintain continuity within the team.
The source said the club had already presented renewal offers to players and was waiting for their responses.
The management does not currently intend to make major changes to the team’s core structure, with the objective of building a stable squad capable of challenging for titles next season.
The decision was reportedly taken in coordination with Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta, club president Mahmoud El Khatib and his deputy Yassin Mansour.
That approach reflects the club’s desire to avoid further disruption to the squad while preparations for the new campaign continue.
Konyaspor interest in Emam Ashour
Emam Ashour has been at the centre of speculation following reports that Konyaspor made an official offer for his services.
The reported proposal was worth €4.25m, but the Al Ahly source rejected suggestions that the club had received an offer from the Turkish side.
That means there is currently no indication from the club that Ashour’s future is being actively negotiated as part of the current transfer window.
The decision to reject discussions over professional offers applies to the first-team squad generally, rather than being limited to Ashour.
Al Ahly’s management appears determined to keep its main players together as it prepares for a season in which the club will compete at both domestic and continental level.
Several changes already made to squad
While the club does not intend to make further major changes to its core squad, Al Ahly have already been active in the transfer market.
The Egyptian side have signed four players: Ali Mahmoud and Aktai Abdullah from Enppi, Algerian forward Moncef Bakrar from Dinamo Zagreb, and Moroccan Soufiane Benjedida from Maghreb Fez.
There have also been several departures.
Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng left after his contract expired and joined Spanish club Valencia, while Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet moved to Al-Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
Tunisian Mohamed Ali Ben Ramadan also departed for Al-Shamal in Qatar.
Mohamed Shoukry, Mostafa El-Ash and Mohamed Siha moved to Al-Masry in Port Said, while Moataz Mohamed joined Haras El-Hodoud.
The club have also terminated Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed’s contract.
Those changes mean Al Ahly have already reshaped parts of their squad, making the management’s decision to prevent further departures particularly significant as the new campaign approaches.
Al Ahly prepare for Barcelona meeting
The team are currently completing a closed training camp in Spain as preparations for the new season continue.
The camp is scheduled to conclude with a high-profile match against Barcelona on 19 August.
Following the game, Al Ahly will return to begin their domestic league campaign.
With the start of competitive action approaching, the club’s decision to keep its first-team players could provide the coaching staff with greater continuity during the final stages of pre-season.
The management’s position is clear: no professional offers for first-team players will be considered during the current transfer period.
For Al Ahly, the immediate priority is to preserve the squad, complete preparations and build a team capable of competing for domestic and continental honours in the season ahead.
