Al Ahly have not yet decided whether they will take part in the upcoming Egyptian Super Cup in the United Arab Emirates, with the club waiting for an official invitation before considering the issue.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from 1 to 8 November, but Al Ahly’s management says there has been no internal decision either to participate or withdraw.
A source at the club told Winwin that the matter is not currently under discussion because Al Ahly have yet to receive official correspondence concerning the competition.
The source said: “We haven’t even discussed the idea yet, either to approve or decline, because no official correspondence has reached the club.”
The club has also not received an official invitation or notification confirming its participation, meaning the football administration has not had a reason to begin examining the issue.
Invitation would not guarantee participation
Al Ahly’s position could change once an official invitation arrives, but the source stressed that receiving one would not automatically mean the Egyptian champions would accept it.
The football management would first study the invitation before making a final decision on whether the team will travel to the UAE for the tournament.
Several factors would be considered during that process, although the source did not disclose what those considerations might be.
The source indicated that the club would discuss a number of issues once the invitation is received, with those factors ultimately helping determine Al Ahly’s position on taking part.
For now, the club is treating the competition as an issue that remains open rather than one that has already been settled.
The management is also continuing to assess decisions according to what it considers the best interests of Al Ahly.
The source stressed that discussions involving the club’s football affairs are being handled through coordination between the board of directors and the football management.
Al Ahly are the defending champions of the Egyptian Super Cup after winning the previous edition in the United Arab Emirates last year.
Their status as holders means the club remains closely associated with the competition, but its participation in the next edition has yet to be confirmed.
Al Ahly prepare for return to action
While the Super Cup situation remains unresolved, Al Ahly’s immediate focus is on their domestic schedule.
The club’s technical staff have given the players a four-day break before they return to training next Monday.
The squad will then begin preparations for a meeting with Petrojet in the Egypt Capital Cup, followed by the club’s upcoming league commitments.
The management’s decision over the Super Cup will therefore come later, with the club currently waiting for the relevant official communication.
Until that correspondence arrives, Al Ahly have not formally discussed whether to accept or decline participation.
Once the invitation is received, the football administration will examine the circumstances before presenting its final position.
For now, both possibilities remain open as Al Ahly await confirmation of the tournament’s arrangements and consider what is in the club’s interests.
