Al Ahly deny emergency talks over Jess Torup exit

Al Ahly SC have denied reports that club officials recently met representatives of coach Jess Torup to negotiate an immediate termination of his contract.

Speculation over the Danish manager’s future intensified in recent hours after claims emerged suggesting senior figures at the Cairo club had already begun discussions aimed at ending his tenure before the conclusion of the domestic season.

However, an official source at Al Ahly told WinWin that the matter had been temporarily put aside as the club focuses on its decisive league encounter against Al Masry SC next Wednesday.

The match, which forms part of the final round of the championship group in the Egyptian league, is scheduled to be played at the Egyptian Army Stadium.

According to the source, Al Ahly’s leadership does not intend to discuss the coach’s future until after the fixture has been completed.

The source said: “After that match, we will talk to the coach about giving him his June salary and then three months’ penalty clause according to the terms of his contract, and he will leave amicably without any problems.”

The statement appears to indicate that the club is preparing for a mutual separation with Torup once the current league obligations are concluded.

The official also rejected suggestions that formal meetings had already taken place between Al Ahly officials and the coach’s representatives.

Instead, the source explained that contact came through Firas Ali, Torup’s agent, who reportedly communicated directly with Sayed Abdel Hafeez regarding possible financial arrangements linked to the coach’s departure.

According to the source, the agent informed Abdel Hafeez that the coach’s camp was willing to conclude the matter immediately under a settlement that would include payment of the current month’s salary, June’s wages, an additional month’s compensation and a three-month penalty clause.

The source stated: “What happened was that Firas Ali, the agent of Yes Torop, contacted Sayed Abdel Hafeez, a member of the board of directors and acting general supervisor of football, and confirmed to him that they were ready to end the matter now, as Torop would receive the salary of the current month as well as five months, which consist of the salary of June and another month, in addition to 3 months as a penalty clause, and a settlement would be made between all parties after the Al-Masry Al-Portsaidi match.”

The same source added that Abdel Hafeez informed the agent that the club was fully aware of its contractual rights and would only address the issue after the Al Masry match.

The official further stressed that Al Ahly had not organised any direct meetings with Torup’s representatives in recent days.

While uncertainty continues surrounding the manager’s future, Al Ahly’s players remain focused on preparations for the decisive encounter against Al Masry.

The Cairo side boosted morale ahead of the match by defeating Delphi SC in a friendly game played at the Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium.

Goals from Imam Ashour and Omar Sayed Moawad secured victory for the Red Team as preparations continued for the final stage of the domestic campaign.
