Al-Ahly Benghazi president Ali Al-Sharif has urged his players to turn their successful preparations into trophies as the club builds towards the start of the Libyan Premier League season on 8 October.
Al-Sharif praised the first-team squad and technical staff for their discipline and commitment during the club’s training camp in Cairo, which has now concluded ahead of the new campaign.
The president said the camp had fulfilled its technical and physical objectives, with the team showing improvement throughout its friendly matches and producing positive results against several strong opponents.
The preparations ended with an impressive victory over Egyptian side Al-Ahly, further increasing expectations around the Benghazi club before the beginning of the domestic season.
The next phase of the preparations will take place in Benghazi, where the club is expected to complete its technical arrangements ahead of the league campaign.
Al-Sharif, speaking publicly for the first time since succeeding Ahmed Bushnaf as club president, also highlighted the importance of the supporters and their expectations as the team prepares for the new season.
“Our ambition is to make our loyal fans happy and deliver a performance worthy of the club’s history and prestige,” he said.
He also called on the players to maintain the same level of determination shown during the Cairo camp and to transform their preparations into success when competitive matches begin.
The club has also used the transfer window to strengthen the squad, bringing in several experienced players from across the Arab and African football landscape as part of its plans to compete for domestic honours.
Among the new arrivals is Moroccan defender Amin Abou El Fath, who joined from Wydad, while Tunisia striker Firas Chaouat has also been added to the squad.
Congolese winger Glody Lilebo, Burkina Faso defender Trofa Bony and Algerian player Islam Moghili are also part of the club’s new signings.
The club has further strengthened its squad with local players, including international striker Fahd Al-Masmari and Ahmed Al-Maqsi.
The recruitment drive forms part of what the administration sees as an ambitious and sustainable project aimed at rebuilding Al-Ahly Benghazi’s position in Libyan football.
The club is now targeting an end to its 34-year wait for the Libyan league title. Victory in the competition would give Al-Ahly Benghazi a fifth league championship in its history.
For the club’s supporters, the new campaign represents another opportunity to see their team compete for major honours, with the administration hoping the work carried out during the pre-season and the additions to the squad can translate into success once the league begins.
