Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli have made an approach for Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye as they look to strengthen their midfield, according to reports.
The Senegal international has attracted attention following an impressive campaign in Spain, where his performances earned him recognition as La Liga’s best African player for the past season.
Gueye, 27, played 39 matches and scored five goals in all competitions for Villarreal last season, establishing himself as an important part of the Spanish club’s midfield.
His form has now put him on the radar of Al-Ahli, who are considering several options as they seek to reinforce their squad during the transfer window.
According to L’Équipe, the Saudi club have already taken steps towards exploring a possible deal for the former Le Havre and Olympique de Marseille player.
However, a move is not yet close to completion. Gueye remains under contract with Villarreal until 2028, meaning Al-Ahli would first have to reach an agreement with the Spanish side before the Senegalese midfielder could leave.
