Ajax Amsterdam are in advanced negotiations with Sunderland over a possible deal for Ivory Coast international Simon Adingra, with the 24-year-old reportedly keen to leave the English club this summer.
Adingra remains under contract with Sunderland until 2030, but his future has become uncertain after he started the season in the Championship following a foot injury.
Ajax have now opened discussions with Sunderland as they explore the possibility of bringing the winger to Amsterdam.
The structure of the proposed deal has yet to be determined. Ajax could pursue a permanent transfer, although another loan arrangement remains an option if the two clubs cannot agree on a full sale.
Sunderland signed Adingra from Brighton & Hove Albion for €25 million in July 2025.
The Ivorian subsequently spent six months on loan at AS Monaco, where he made a positive impression in Ligue 1.
Adingra scored three goals and provided three assists in 14 appearances for Monaco, highlighting the pace and attacking threat that have attracted Ajax’s interest.
His spell in France helped rebuild his reputation following a difficult start to his time at Sunderland.
The winger is currently valued at around €22 million and has experience across several European competitions. Before joining Sunderland, he established himself at Brighton and also gained experience in Belgian football.
Adingra’s international pedigree further enhances his profile. He represents Ivory Coast and was part of the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations, while his experience in the Premier League and Ligue 1 has given him exposure to high-level competition.
For Sunderland, the negotiations come less than a year after they invested €25 million to bring the winger from Brighton.
His contract, which runs until 2030, puts the EPL club in a strong negotiating position despite Adingra’s reported desire to seek a move elsewhere.
Ajax, meanwhile, are looking to add an attacking player with experience at some of Europe’s major clubs and competitions.
Adingra’s productive spell at Monaco is likely to be an important factor in their pursuit, with his three goals and three assists in 14 appearances demonstrating his ability to contribute in the final third.
The negotiations are understood to be advanced, but no agreement has yet been reached.
The final outcome could depend on whether Ajax and Sunderland can settle on a permanent transfer or instead agree to another loan spell for the Ivory Coast winger.
