Egyptian goalkeeper Ahmed Adel has retired from professional football after leaving Ismaily, bringing an end to a trophy-laden career highlighted by major continental and domestic success with Al Ahly.
The 39-year-old, who most recently played for Ismaily, officially stepped away from the game on 16 July 2026. It marks the conclusion of a senior journey that began at Al Ahly, where he graduated from the youth ranks to the first team in 2007.
Adel made his name as part of a dominant Al Ahly squad, collecting two CAF Champions League titles and two CAF Super Cups during his time with the Cairo giants. He also lifted the CAF Confederation Cup once, underlining his role in one of the most successful eras in the club’s modern history.
On the domestic front, the 1.89m goalkeeper was involved in eight Egyptian Premier League title-winning campaigns with Al Ahly, as well as triumphs in the Egyptian Cup and Egyptian Super Cup. His honours list places him among the most decorated goalkeepers of his generation in Egyptian club football.
After more than a decade at Al Ahly, Adel moved on in 2018 to El Makasa, before subsequent spells with El Gouna and then Ismaily, whom he joined on a free transfer in September 2021. Those moves extended his top-flight career and kept him in the Egyptian Premier League into his late 30s.
Right-footed and consistently trusted as a last line of defence, Ahmed Adel now ends his career as a retired player following his departure from Ismaily.
