Afner Ca, the Guinea-Bissau and Portugal youth centre-forward currently with Newcastle United U21s, is being linked with a move into the senior Newcastle set-up in the Premier League. The 19-year-old, who represents the club’s under-21 side, is understood to be on the radar of decision-makers at St James’ Park after his arrival earlier this summer.
Ca joined Newcastle’s youth ranks on 20 July 2026, moving on a free transfer from Levante U19. His pathway has taken him from Bissau-born prospect to youth football in Portugal with Amora, then to Spain with Levante, before Newcastle moved to bring him into their under-21 squad.
Standing at 1.92m and operating as a left-footed centre-forward, Ca has been recruited specifically for an attacking role, with Newcastle monitoring his development at age-group level. His recent competitive outings came in Portugal with Amora’s youth teams across league and cup competitions, where he featured in domestic action before earning his switch to Levante and subsequently to England.
The current talk around Ca centres on whether Newcastle will look to integrate him more closely with the senior group following his move into their under-21 structure, or allow him time to settle in youth football in England. Having only just signed for Newcastle U21s, Ca is at the beginning of his spell on Tyneside, with his contractual future at the club yet to be clarified publicly.
