Togolese referee Kossi Senyo has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate Monday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone.
Senyo is among a group of referees selected by CAF to take charge of matches on the second day of the qualifying campaign, with the continental governing body relying on experienced officials for a number of important fixtures.
The Equatorial Guinea-Sierra Leone encounter is one of four matches listed for Monday, with Senyo handed responsibility for the meeting.
The other appointments include Egyptian referee Amin Omar, who will oversee the Group E clash between Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ricardo Sanca of Guinea-Bissau has been selected for the Central African Republic’s match against Burkina Faso, while Tanzania’s Ahmed Ally will take charge of Tunisia’s meeting with Botswana.
CAF’s appointments come as national teams continue their efforts to collect points early in the race to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
With qualification campaigns often decided by small margins, the officials will have an important role to play as teams compete for results across the continent.
Monday’s programme includes the Group E meeting between Zimbabwe and DR Congo, which has been identified as one of the day’s key fixtures.
That encounter will be refereed by Omar, an Egyptian official who has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the high-stakes meeting.
Senyo, meanwhile, will be at the centre of the Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone fixture.
The Togolese official’s appointment means a referee from Togo will be responsible for overseeing a match involving two other African national teams as both sides seek valuable points in the qualifiers.
The remaining appointments will see Sanca take charge of Central African Republic against Burkina Faso, while Ally will officiate Tunisia versus Botswana.
CAF has selected officials with experience as it seeks to maintain standards of refereeing during the qualifying campaign.
The second round of fixtures comes with pressure on the participating teams, who will be looking to establish themselves early in the qualification race.
For the players and coaching teams, maintaining discipline will be particularly important as the matches unfold.
