AFCON 2027Q: Aouchiche demands continued focus as Algeria face Burundi

Algeria midfielder Adil Aouchiche says the national team is determined to secure a second consecutive victory when they face Burundi in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday.

Aouchiche was speaking at a press conference on Monday ahead of the Group I encounter, which will be played at Burundi’s home stadium.

The Schalke midfielder said Algeria remain focused on the task ahead and are looking to build on their previous result by claiming another win.

“Our work is not finished and we are striving to secure our second victory against Burundi. I always strive to give my best, whether with the national team or at club level.”

Aouchiche is also hoping for an opportunity to make his first start for the Algerian national team.

The midfielder has so far made one appearance for the Greens, coming on as a substitute in a friendly against Guatemala. Algeria won that match 7-0 as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

His next opportunity comes in a competitive fixture, with Algeria travelling to face Burundi in the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The match represents another chance for Aouchiche to establish himself within the national team as Algeria look to continue their qualifying campaign with another positive result.

The midfielder’s comments underline Algeria’s focus on maintaining their momentum, while Aouchiche’s own priority is to contribute whenever he is called upon, whether for his country or Schalke.

The two sides are set to meet on Tuesday, with the fixture forming part of the second round of the continental qualifying campaign.

According to the head-to-head information provided, Burundi and Algeria have no recorded meetings across all competitions. The record therefore shows neither side with a victory or draw against the other.

The statistics also list both teams’ recent form over their last five matches. Burundi have recorded two wins and three defeats during that period, without a draw.

Algeria, meanwhile, have registered two victories, two defeats and one draw in their last five matches.

The contrasting recent records provide the backdrop to Tuesday’s encounter, although Aouchiche’s message is that Algeria’s attention remains on securing another win rather than looking beyond the immediate challenge.

For the Schalke midfielder, the match also offers an opportunity to take another step forward with the national team after his substitute appearance against Guatemala.

Algeria will now look to turn their ambition into another victory when they take on Burundi away from home on Tuesday, with Aouchiche and his team-mates targeting a second successive success in the qualifying campaign.
