Kaizer Chiefs have signed Tanzania midfielder Adolf Bitegeko from Azam FC, adding the 27-year-old defensive specialist to their Betway Premiership squad.
Bitegeko, who operates primarily as a defensive midfielder and is right-footed, moves to the South African giants after a spell back in his home country with Azam. The transfer, completed on 21 July 2026, sees Chiefs bring in a player with experience in both African continental competition and European league football.
Born in Bukoba, Bitegeko has previously featured in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, giving him exposure to high-intensity knockout football. His time at Azam followed a stint in Iceland with Volsungur IF, where he initially arrived on a free transfer in January 2024 after leaving European football in 2020.
During his period in Iceland, Bitegeko accumulated more than 60 league appearances across the second tier and Lengjudeild, contributing a handful of goals from midfield and building a reputation as a reliable screen in front of the defence. Earlier in his career he also turned out for KR Reykjavik and Keflavik, including a loan spell between the two clubs.
Standing at 1.78m, Bitegeko’s profile suggests he will compete for a role at the base of Chiefs’ midfield, offering protection to the back line and balance in possession. His arrival continues a journey that has taken him from Bukoba to Iceland and back to East Africa, and now to one of South Africa’s most high-profile clubs.
Bitegeko’s move from Azam FC to Kaizer Chiefs is a completed deal ahead of the 2026–27 campaign.
