The long-running negotiations over Adam Ounas’ proposed move to MC Alger could be concluded on Sunday, with the Algeria international expected to arrive in the country to complete the final details of what would become the biggest salary deal in Algerian league history.
According to Algerian newspaper Competition, talks between Ounas and MC Alger have entered their final stage after several weeks of discussions.
The two sides are understood to have moved closer to an agreement following a virtual meeting held last Thursday. MC Alger’s directors had initially opposed the financial terms being requested, but are reported to have reconsidered their position.
Ounas, 29, is seeking an advance equivalent to seven months’ wages when he signs. The winger has won 30 caps for Algeria and scored five goals for his country, although he has not been selected for the senior national team since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
An agreement is believed to have been reached around a monthly salary of €80,000, rather than the €100,000 figure initially discussed. Even at the revised level, the proposed contract would make Ounas the highest-paid player in the history of the Algerian championship.
The player’s representative has reportedly been in Algeria since Saturday. Ounas is expected to follow in order to settle the remaining contractual details, with MC Alger officials still attempting to negotiate terms that would be more favourable financially for the club.
A final decision could therefore be made on Sunday, although the deal has not yet been officially completed.
Ounas’ possible arrival would represent a major move for MC Alger, who are attempting to secure the signature of an established Algeria international after the negotiations stretched over a number of weeks. The club’s willingness to revisit its initial financial stance has brought the transfer closer, but discussions over the final package remain ongoing.
The proposed salary would set a new benchmark for the Algerian league, with the €80,000 monthly figure surpassing the previous highest level. The initial request of €100,000 was reduced during the negotiations, allowing the parties to find what is understood to be a provisional compromise.
Ounas’ international experience remains a central part of the discussions. He has represented Algeria 30 times and scored five goals, but has not featured for the senior side since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. At club level, his next move is now expected to be determined by the conclusion of talks with MC Alger.
The presence of his representative in Algeria and the player’s expected arrival suggest that the negotiations are approaching their decisive point. MC Alger will now hope to complete the agreement while limiting the financial commitment involved in the record-breaking proposed contract.
