Aaron Mbimbe backs David Pagou’s Cameroon squad for Namibia qualifiers

David Pagou has named a 28-player Cameroon squad for the two-match meeting with Namibia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The selection includes four goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 10 midfielders and four forwards. Former Indomitable Lions central defender Aaron Mbimbe has described the squad as coherent, saying David Pagou is remaining committed to his ideas.

Speaking exclusively to Africafoot, Mbimbe said the coach’s approach was beginning to take shape, with the foundations established during the previous major competition continuing to influence the team.

He believes that continuity can help stabilise the squad while also allowing new players to be introduced.

Mbimbe did, however, raise questions about the defensive choices. Although 10 defenders have been selected, some of the players called up during the last FIFA window are absent from the latest list.

The former Indomitable Lions defender also reviewed the team’s previous international break, assessing the direction of the squad under Pagou.

Local players included

Mbimbe welcomed the recognition given to players from the domestic championship. He particularly noted the inclusion of footballers from La Colombe du Sud, as well as the young captain of the Under-20 team.

Ivan Jordan Nana is regarded as one of the surprises in David Pagou’s Cameroon squad.

For Mbimbe, the selection reflects the coach’s willingness to reward performances in the local league while continuing to develop the national team.

Overall, Mbimbe believes Pagou has not moved away from his planned route and remains focused on rebuilding Cameroon.
