Brighton youngster Younes Ibrahim’s hopes of making his Egypt debut remain uncertain amid conflicting reports over his potential inclusion in the Pharaohs’ squad for November’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Reports initially suggested that the Egyptian Football Association had set an October 24 deadline for the midfielder’s representative to respond to an approach concerning his international future, with the absence of a response potentially affecting his chances of joining the squad.
However, subsequent reports from Egyptian media have indicated that the process is still ongoing, with coach Hossam Hassan reportedly requesting that Ibrahim be considered for the November camp.
The 18-year-old has attracted attention following his progress at Brighton & Hove Albion, where he has featured for the first team and impressed during a UEFA Conference League appearance.
His eligibility has drawn interest from Egypt as the association seeks to recruit young players with international options through family ties. Ibrahim was born in Australia and has potential international connections to Egypt, Morocco, England and Australia, according to reports.
Egypt are preparing for two matches against Malawi on November 13 and 17 as they continue their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign. The first match will be played in Cairo before the Pharaohs travel to Malawi for the return fixture.
Whether Ibrahim features in the final squad will depend on the outcome of the selection process and the completion of any outstanding administrative requirements.
For now, reports of his exclusion should be treated cautiously, as the latest available accounts suggest that his potential involvement has not been definitively ruled out.
